MASON-- "Every other house we see is for sale. We just wanted to do something different and exciting."
The Dunivons have lived in Mason for close to 50 years. More than 25 have been spent in this home. But all things change, the Dunivon's chose to sell their home and move across town, and the housing market went into a lull.
"The market being so slow right now, we had it on the real estate market for maybe a month and not a lot of response," said Mike Dunivon.
With a slumping market, the dunivon's decided to take a different approach to market their home.
"We looked into an essay contest," said Dunivon. "It seems like it would work out very well."
Working with the Mason Historical Society, the Dunivon's decided their home will go to whomever writes the winning 250-word essay describing why they want to own their home. But the contest isn't just for the Dunivon's to sell their home.
"We just wanted someone to get the house who maybe couldn't afford a house or needed a house and this would be a way for them to get into a house," said Dunivon.
The contest started a little over a week ago, and responses are starting to trickle in.
"We've had 111 people that have gone to the website," said Dunivon. "We haven't checked our mail yet."
They're hoping it's flooded with responses.
The entry fee is $200 and the deadline is June 1st.
The essay must be less than 250-words.
