A power outage in the Grand Ledge area zaps some people's valuable electronics, and now those folks want the power company to pay for the damage.

A Consumers Energy power surge last weekend left thousands of residents in the Grand Ledge area without power for seven hours. But more than just power was lost for dozens of residents.

Televisions and computers are on the list of items that were damaged by the equipment failure.

Consumers Energy says the outage happened when a fire on the cross arm of a utility poll caused a power line to fall onto a distribution line.

The utility says this circumstance was beyond their reasonable control and not due to negligence. They say they try to do the fair thing all the time.
