A Michigan National Guard unit returns home Thursday, greeted by hundreds of supporters in Midland. The 1460th transportation unit has been serving in Kuwait and Iraq for 14 months. Now all 136 members are home.
The unit is made up of guard members from Jackson, Midland, and Wyoming, MI. They performed transportation duties in the Middle East.
A parade was held to welcome the soldiers back home, after which congressmen and military officials commended the soldiers for their service.
Friends and family say 14 months has been a long time to be at home without their loved ones in the military. Specialist John Corlew has only seen his seven-month-old daughter, Delaney, once since she was born. His wife, Laura, says they have a lot of catching up to do.
Members of the 1460th should be home for a while. The unit is expected to be re-deployed for at least a year.
