A state house committee has approved legislation that would beef up traffic safety for school children.
The bill, which was introduced last year by Lansing state representative Michael Murphy, would require communities to provide crosswalks on all busy streets.
Murphy introduced the bill following the death of 13-year-old Waverly Middle School student, Jasmine Miles. She was struck by a car and killed while trying to cross Saint Josepny highway after school last May.
