Twenty-nine elementary schools, six middle schools, three high schools and two special centers were all under one roof participating in Sunday's Lansing School Dstrict Showcase.

Dr. E. Sharon Banks, Lansing Superintendent, says it's an opportunity for parents to see the core curriculum and what's it's developed around. The Showcase was also an opportunity for parents to ask questions. Elizabeth and Tom Clift said they thought the event was a great idea. The Clift's asked teachers how long they'd been at their current schools and how long they'd been teaching. Twila Willard said she just wanted to see some of the schools and to find out where people were going.

With budgets hanging in the balance and last weeks millage increase proposal defeated, Sunday's event was also a chance to get updated on what will be done to ensure the future of Lansing's nearly 17,000 students. Banks says there's going to be some cuts in programs, but she's been trying to keep it within the administrative ranks and as far away from the classroom as possible.
