Regaining Speech Skills

An intense, unique rehabilitation program is helping stroke survivors regain speech skills after debilitating brain attacks.

The Intensive Aphasia Program is helping stroke victims to regain their speech. Aphasia is a language processing disorder that affects speech, listening, reading, and writing in stroke survivors. The program provides therapy three and a half hours a day five days a week for three weeks, teaching stroke survivors to better express themselves.

And for people who take the program, it does not matter how long it’s been since someone has had a stroke. They will still see benefits. There are similar Aphasia programs at the University of Michigan, the University of Pittsburgh, and Dalhouse University in Nova Scotia. For more information you can contact the National Aphasia Association at www.aphasia.org or you can call North Memorial Stroke Center in Minneapolis at 763-520-5900.
