It took the jury just five hours to reach a verdict.
He was found guilty of two felonies including False Report of a Felony and Discharging a Firearm at an Emergency/Police Vehicle and two misdemeanors including Reckless Use of a Firearm and False Report on a Police Radio Station.
Juror Lynn Keasler would only say it was the inconsistencies in his story that helped her make a decision.
Eaton County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sauter says he's satisfied with the verdict. "It was very obvious he (former Eaton County Sgt. Jeff Lutz) staged an event. We don't exactly know why he staged an event, but it was obvious and I'm satisfied the jury saw it," he explained.
Nearly one year ago, Lutz claimed a black man shot him behind a Delta Township Plaza. He made a frantic call for help to dispatch and a massive manhunt followed.
Lutz's Defense Attorney said, in his closing statements Tuesday, investigators contaminated the crime scene and ‘screwed up’ the search.
Neither he nor Lutz had any comment after the verdict. Lutz will be sentenced April 19th.
