Gleen Kirk, currently Finance Director for General Motors' Lansing Car Assembly, will take the position following his April 1 retirement.
Kirk will replace Doug Rubley who retired from the Finance post last November.
In making the announcement, Mayor Benavides said "Glenn's comprehensive financial experience with General Motors, combined with his years of service with several City of Lansing boards, commissions and community organizations, makes him an excellent choice to serve as Lansing's Finance Director."
Kirk has been with GM for 36 years. He began in the company's Willow Run Assembly Plant in Ypsilanti and then quickly moved into GM's Financial Department where he served as a full-time salaried employee. Kirk was then promoted and relocated to GM's Tech Center in Warren, where he held several functional and managerial positions. He came to Lansing in 1995 to serve as Director of Finance at the Lansing Car Assembly Plant and later added those same responsibilities at the Lansing Craft Cetre.
In light of Kirk's extensive corporate finance experience, Mayor Benavides will ask Lansing City Council to waive a City Charter requirement that the City's Finance Director should have five years of municipal financial management experience.
