While the governor continues to study expanding the state sales tax to state services, the GOP Speaker in the Michigan House has embraced that issue while his counterpart in the state Senate has not.

Speaker Rick Johnson tells News 10 it's time to start discussions on reducing the single business tax and replacing it with a sales tax on services that could include attorneys, doctors, baseball games, movies and golf.

The Senate GOP leader Ken Sikkema however has not signed off saying its up to the proponents of the plan to convince him that it will help create jobs and if it doesn't Sikkema would oppose it.

Meanwhile, the chair of the House Tax Policy committee says he is surprised and pleased by the Speakers encouraging comments. Rep. Lorence Wenke says the current sales tax is unfair and needs to be extended to other areas.
