A mentoring program in the Lansing School District is no longer struggling to stay alive.
With the help of U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers, Lansing now has the money it needs to keep the HOSTS Program thriving. Helping One Student to Succeed is a volunteered based one-on-one reading program.
Through the efforts of Rogers in Washington D.C., he was able to obtain close to $200,000 for Lansing. A lack of funding last year led to major reductions in the program.
Reo Elementary School is an example of a school that relies on the HOSTS Program. The average increase of a child's reading level after using the program is about 1.5 grade levels each year.
