East Lansing’s Fire Department is depending on about one million dollars in fire grants from the state of Michigan according to East Lansing’s City Manager. This, despite overturning the state revenue sharing veto.
While Gov. Engler’s veto was overturned releasing state revenue to local cities and towns like East Lansing, the fire grant portion of legislation is still up in the air.
The State House of Representatives passed a budget for the state department of transportation including funding for fire grants, but the grants have yet to be approved from the senate.
For now more than seven million dollars in fire protection grants will wait for a legislative decision.
