Juliana Routhier, J.J. as her friends called her, always had a love for horses. She rode every Sunday, but little did she know that her ride last week would be her last.
Rachelle Anthony, J.J.'s riding partner and friend, said the two of them were riding up to Cactus Juice Saloon, last Sunday, when a dog came out of a yard. Anthony says the dog was barking and chasing after them. The horses started running out of control and J.J.'s foot slipped from the stirrup. She fell from the horse and hit the lower right side of her skull. J.J. was knocked unconscious and never woke up. Doctor's declared her brain dead on Friday and Saturday morning she was taken off of life support. J.J. leaves behind a husband and a daughter who turns four in two weeks. Joshua Routhier, J.J's husband, says he doesn't know how he will tell their daughter.
Family and friends say they're working with police to get a case together. They say the dog who spooked the horses was not on a leash. State law requires all dogs be on a hand held leash, under voice control or confined to the owner's property at all times.
The Routhier's did not have health insurance. Friends have set up a website and will organize a fundraiser in the future for donations to help defray the costs. If you would like to donate please call 517-898-6858 or log onto www.helpjjj@yahoo.com.
