Michigan State University students go on spring break starting this weekend. East Lansing Police say it's a time when home invasions increase.

A majority of students leave town for home or vacation during this week. Police say a number of them fail to securely lock doors and windows, allowing burglaries to take place. Police recommend students lock their houses or apartments and ask neighbors to keep an eye on the place.

But police say a number of other problems decline during spring break. They say there's less traffic at bars and restaurants in town, leading to fewer disorderly conduct and noise complaints.

Police say they try to make extra patrols through areas with a high concentration of student housing during this week.
