A substitute teacher at a Charlotte middle school, who is accused of inappropriately touching a young girl, appeared in court Friday for a preliminary exam.

Eaton County Circuit Judge Paul Berger found enough evidence to hold the case over for pretrial. The former Eaton Intermediate School District employee was arraigned last month on one charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The Parkview Elementary School student says Thomas Phillip Corbin touched her breast during a reading exercise in April.

The prosecuting attorney says the defense insinuated the girl was told what to say. But he says an adult asked her what happened and she simply responded.

As a result of the alleged incident, the 11-year-old has decided to leave the school district. A pretrial date has been set for August 16.
