GM Pick-up Truck Plant Closing

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) -- General Motors Co. is closing a 37-year-old truck plant north of Detroit.
GM spokesman Chris Lee said the closure is scheduled for Tuesday for the plant in Pontiac that makes heavy-duty GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado pickups. The plant employs about 1,000 workers.
The plant, built in 1972 for the production of medium-duty trucks, was among 14 manufacturing facilities that GM announced in June would close or be put on standby capacity in case vehicle demand increases.
The company said earlier this month that its plant in Fort Wayne, Ind., will add production of the heavy-duty pickups that have been made in Pontiac. It will take at least three months to add the shifts because workers must be moved and machinery must be disassembled and moved from Pontiac.

The state government's perspective: Manufacturing plants are yucky. They make pollution and hurt our environment. Through our high business taxes and cheap labor overseas, we should see most of these jobs move overseas in a few years. Every time a plant closes and 1000 or more people lose their jobs, we'll immediately send the Governor to foreign countries to bring back a couple more "green" jobs.

Well there goes more jobs.Indian.What's going on there that isn't in Mi.Some things are cheaper there even with all the taxes they do have.It is what taxes are and how fair they are,and how they run a state.Caring about jobs and people is what keeps a state going.Something Mich has forgotten. How to take care of people and businesses.Look at the shape of Mi and what is going on.Thanks Mich government.Running this state in the hole and not wanting to help people get out of the mess you have put them in.
