Three Detroit men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting in East Lansing early Sunday. Their names are being withheld pending their arraignment.
Police say just before 2:30AM Sunday, 34 year old Joseph Lavon Parker was shot several times and killed in trhe parking lot of the 7-Eleven store at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Grand River.
Another man, George Whitfield, was also shot, but survived. He was able to run to a nearby apartment building and call for help.
The suspects led police on a chase that ended in Lansing when a tire on their car blew out, causing them to crash into a pole.
Parker's murder is East Lansing's first homicide since 2000.
