Speaking to state senators in Lansing Tuesday, DaimlerChrysler Chief Economist Van Jolissaint said he expects gas prices to stay in the mid-$2 range.

But Jolissaint says his company is building cars on the basis of $3-per-gallon gasoline to help improve fuel economy and balance Chrysler's truck-heavy sales numbers.

He also said he expects the housing market to "bottom out" likely this summer, or, at worst by the end of 2007.
