Granholm Orders Flags to Half Staff

Gov. Jennifer Granholm on Monday ordered that U.S. flags be lowered across Michigan later this week to honor two servicemen recently killed in Iraq.
Flags should be lowered Wednesday to honor Marine Pfc. Brett Witteveen, of Shelby. Witteveen, 20, died Feb. 19 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the Marine Force Reserves 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division based in Grand Rapids.
Flags should be lowered Thursday to honor Army Pfc. Justin T. Paton of Alanson. Paton, 24, died Feb. 17 when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire in Taramia. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas.

-- Marine Cpl. Mark D. Kidd, 26, of Milford, died Jan. 25 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province. Kidd was assigned to the Marine Forces Reserve's 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in Mount Clemens.
-- Marine Pfc. Tarryl Hill, 19, of Macomb County's Shelby Township, died Feb. 7 when his vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device in Al Anbar province. Hill was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in Mount Clemens.
