Stranger Helps Near-Drowning Victim

Updated: Mon 5:40 PM, Jul 15, 2002

An anonymous donor has paid thousands of dollars so that the teen that nearly drowned in Lake Lansing can return to his home in Canada.

Thirteen-year-old Mohammad Sohaib Fida is now hospitalized in Regina Memorial Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan. An anonymous donor paid for the $13,500 Air Ambulance flight back.

Fida's family wanted to get back to Canada because their insurance paid only $100 a day in the United States and his father was in danger of losing his job if he didn't return soon.

Mohammad slipped beneath the waters of Lake Lansing on July Fourth while swimming with family and friends. He was underwater for several minutes before he was found. He's been in a coma since.
