The Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant was the stage for Lansing Mayor Tony Benavides as he delivered his State of the City Address.

Keeping with the Car Capitol of the World theme, the beginning of the speech focused on General Motors. The mayor says he's looking forward to breaking ground on the Delta Township Assembly Plant.

But he also says he knows Lansing cannot stop there. He says he will look at bringing in new products, finding new uses for old plants, and maybe even pursuing a third plant at the Delta site.

When it came to education, Benavides says he believes Lansing has some of the best schools of any urban community in Michigan. He wants to make Lansing the first choice for education.

The mayor says he proud to report the city has found a way to balance the budget, despite facing more than a $1.5 million budget deficit. Benavides also announced the creation of a Business Resource Center and Business Council.
