As Iowa's caucus comes to a close, the Michigan Democratic Party is still sending out applications and counting ballots.
Michigan is one of about 20 states that holds a caucus rather than a primary to choose its delegates to go to the national convention. Mark Brewer, Executive Chairman of Michigan's Democratic Party, says each state can choose which it will hold. A caucus is run by the political party and a primary is run by the state.
Michigan's caucus runs through Feb. 7, giving voters more time and this year, additional options, in which to cast a ballot. Voters can mail a ballot in, cast one via the Internet or vote in person at one of the sites on voting day.
