Michigan State University’s WKAR-TV celebrated it’s 50th anniversary with the launching of it’s digital signal – mixing the past with the station’s future.

The public broadcast station is the second oldest in the country, launched in 1954.

Its first show aired was the news.

Since it’s first broadcast as channel 60, the station has jumped around on the television dial.

At one point it shared airtime with this station on channel 10 (WILX-TV) before reaching its current destination on channel 23.

The digital launch can be seen on most high definition TV sets on channel 55.

The first show aired for digital broadcast was a nature segment -- Animals Behaving Badly
