State Aid

It's no secret schools are facing tough decisions because of budget cuts to state aid funding. But new numbers recently released have some school officials breathing a sigh of relief.

School districts throughout the state were informed that state per pupil funding will be cut by $84. This is a drop from the $100 or less they were hearing and a drastic change from the originally proposed $196.

For a school district like East Lansing, the reduction in cuts will allow them to keep all staffing in place for this year and make up for soft budget items.

The superintendent says rising costs for infrastructure needed to run a school and a slumping economy makes the future uncertain.
