A Lansing mother of three will spend the next 15 to 35 years in prison for the murder of her boyfriend, James Wilkerson. Thirty-two-year-old Linda Marquardt pled guilty to second degree murder in November. Police found Wilkerson's body buried in the backyard of the home they shared on Martin Luther King Blvd. in Lansing last June.
Marquardt told Judge William Collette she suffered years of physical, emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of Wilkerson. And she said she feared for her life and lives of her three sons. Wilkerson was the father of her youngest.
Prosecutors refuted her claims of abuse. And the victim's mother spoke out in court. Prosecutors say Marquardt has a history of lying, and the only domestic abuse happened when she chose to shoot Wilkerson.
Marquardt now faces embezzlement charges. She has been indicted for stealing $34,000 from the AARP, where she once worked.
