The celebration was held at the Lansing Center. Benavides, along with council members Joan Bauer, Carol Wood, Randy Williams, and Harold Leeman took the oath of office.
In his Inaugural address, Benavides promised to work with labor, industry, and business. He also stressed that he will be a mayor for all of the people.
Despite saying he's going into the New Year with joy, hope and optimism, Benavides admits the state budget crisis will present challenges for his administration.
