Close to 200 men and women from Howell's Michigan National Guard unit will be leaving Jan. 3 to go to the Middle East. They'll be away from home for up to two years. A support group is stepping in to help make things at home easier once the soldiers leave, but donated items are still needed for those embarking on this long journey.
The Family Readiness Support Group is collecting comfort items like coffee makers, microwaves and even washers and dryers so the guardsmen can take the things with them when they go.
If you would like to donate please stop by or call the Howell Armory at (517) 546-0670. Lists of items still needed are available.
