Some residents in Lansing’s Grosbeck community are questioning the safety of Wood St. Residents say drivers on the road exceed the 35 mile per hour limit sometimes going as fast as 80. But some argue it’s only going to get worse.

Herman Van Drie, resident of Wood St., is concerned about the effect of the nearby East Lansing Towne Center Mall.

He says the speeding cars will only get worse as the mall opens in September and traffic around his area builds.

Lansing officials are addressing his concerns July 10 in a safety meeting.

Lansing township officials claim they have bolstered police patrols around the area of concern but Van Drie is calling for more action. He’s requesting stop signs, traffic lights and other means to interrupt the flow of traffic and speeders.
