City Council Denies Pipeline Proposal

Lansing City Council voted seven to one against the Wolverine Pipeline proposal to lay 26 miles of pipeline along I-96 freeway in South Lansing. City council president Larry Meyer was the only council member who voted in favor of the Wolverine Pipeline Company.

Wolverine Pipeline representatives and Lansing residents spoke to city council members about the pros and the cons of the pipeline before Monday night's meeting. Both groups tried to persuade the council vote.

Wolverine officials say they may take the city to court, but that would be very costly. They say they may also file an application to install a pipeline along the Consumer's Energy Corridor. They say they won't need approval from the city for a pipeline in that location, but they would have to get approval from the Michigan Public Service Commission.
