Less than one day after Lansing leaders announce the addition of four community police officers, four are selected.
The officers will be officially assigned to their areas in the next couple of days. They will be on duty by February 5.
This move follows three murders and one suspicious death in the Capital city this month. Lansing leaders hope adding four community police officers to trouble spots will help curb crime.
The officers will be assigned to the Genesee Neighborhood, the Baker/Donora Neighborhood, the downtown area and the area near Wainwright Elementary School.
Officer Kenneth Callison will be assigned to the Genesee Neighborhood. Callison, who was once a community police officer in the Northtown area, says his goal is to decrease the drugs in the area.
