"I was intoxicated, your honor," states Shiawassee County Prosecutor Randy Colbry.

Colbry admits Thursday to being drunk behind the wheel.

"How do you plead?" asks Clinton County Judge Richard Wells.

"Guilty," says Colbry.

His guilty plea of operating while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and a no-contest plea to failing to stop at the scene of an accident, both stem from an incident July 7.

Reports say Colbry drove his Dodge Durango into a Pontiac G6 at the corner of Vernon and M-21 in Venice Township. Police say he then drove off, and was tracked down miles away.

"Good people do bad things and make mistakes. That's what happened here," says Colbry's attorney, Jose Brown.

Brown speaks to reporters after the arraignment in lieu of Colbry.

"He's going to pay for it as a prosecutor more than all of you would, more than I would," Brown says. "I hope that's reflected in him earning the respect of the community and keeping the integrity of the legal system by doing the stand-up thing today and pleading guilty."

Brown answers "No" when asked if Colbry will resign, and refused to answer what exactly was going to happen with his elected position.

But Corunna resident Lucille Russell knows what she thinks should happen.

"I think he should resign," she says.

So does Joan Gorte of Corunna.

"I think he did the wrong thing. He should have stopped," Gorte says, mentioning that his position should not get him off without punishment.

Colbry didn't talk to reporters after the arraignment, but gave us a written statement that said, in part:

"I am convinced all I have learned through the process of accepting responsibility and changing the way I deal with the stress of my jobm and life in general, has made me a better man; and thus, a better prosecutor."

The Shiawassee County Sheriff's Department is still waiting on blood alcohol content lab results from MSP.

Colbry coming clean Thursday, saying he'd "drank vodka and pop" before getting into the car July 7.

And now, he'll face the consequences.

It's unclear whether Colbry is back to work or not. We were told by various county court workers he was, but other reports state otherwise. When we made numerous calls to the Prosecutor's office, no one would tell us whether or not he is indeed working there.
