Christmas Tree Back

Many complain of back pain during the holidays, sometimes cutting and trimming the Christmas tree can be a cause. Here are some simple tips to avoid injury over the potentially strenuous holiday.

  • Stretch before cutting, pulling or lifting a tree.

  • Lift with your legs, not with your back.

  • Get on your hands and knees to cut the Christmas tree, don't bend at the waist.

  • Avoid any twisting motions with your back while lifting.

  • Have another person help you move a Christmas tree after cutting it, or, use a cart/wheels/sled.

  • Make sure ladders--used when decorating a tree--are stable.

  • Check all legs of the ladder and have someone hold it while you work.

  • Never step on the top rung of the ladder.
