A teenager is in serious condition after flames engulfed his demolition derby car at Friday's Ingham County Fair festivities. Dan Mull has severe arm burns as a result of Friday's accident.

Fair officials say there is no rule stating firefighters must be present during a car derby, but from now on, they say, a fire truck will be on hand in case there are problems.

Stan Jordan, president of the Ingham County Fair Board, said the demolition derby company's insurance provider makes the decision as to whether or not a fire truck is necessary at the derby. However, after Friday's accident, a fire truck and fire fighting materials will be available at future Ingham County fairs.

Officials say Fridays' incident was a "freak accident." Derby veterans say they've never seen a driver so severely injured as a result of a car fire.
