Lansing firefighters are being trained on new cutting equipment to help aid in their rescue efforts. The gear is plasma and by combining electrical energy and compressed air, firefighters will be able to cut through heavy steel objects like window bars, door frames and beams.

Kovas Door Company of Indiana is donating the training time and Hypotherm is donating more than five thousand dollars worth of plasma cutting equipment.

Training started Wednesday and officials with the Lansing Fire Department say the equipment should be up and running in a month or two when all the kinks are worked out.
