After nearly two years of construction and months of preparation, students are in class at Lansing's new Pattengill Middle School.
Class began Tuesday at 7:52 a.m. Principal Synthia Taylor ushered eager students in and they made their way to first hour.
Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, Superintendent of Lansing Schools E. Sharon Banks and school board members welcomed the kids in, shaking hands and offering words of encouragement.
Once in class, teachers handed out maps, students highlighted their new classrooms and practiced fire drills.
There's still a few kinks to work out. The bell wasn't ringing, the PA system wasn't being heard throughout the entire school and some computers were set up for users.
