The Capital Area United Way announces better than expected totals for its fundraising campaign so far this year.
Officials say the agency overcame challenges to raise more than $6.3 million. The total is down about nine percent from last year, but not the 40-percent the agency was bracing for.
Factors such as unemployment and an embezzlement scandal had left doubts in the minds of some officials.
Capital Area United Way officials emphasize that several campaigns are not over.
