On the first day of 2007, Governor Jennifer Granholm began the first day of her second term as Michigan's 47th leader. In her inaugural speech she unveiled her new agenda, The Next Michigan: Transformation and Opportunity.
"We must transform a state whose proud economy has been built piston by piston, for 100 years upon a manufacturing platform that is now being eroded by global forces beyond our control."
During her first term as governor, Granholm has brought more than 90 companies to Michigan for relocation or expansion. And she intends to bring even more with the help of bipartisan agreement.
"In this our moment, with urgency and with courage, we will transform our beloved state. We will provide opportunity for all our citizens. And together, we will build the next Michigan."
