I miss you Doug! I still can't believe you are gone. I wish I could see you one more time to tell you what a great person you are and how much you meant to me! Forever missed but never forgotten!
He was a good man and when my father died on June 18th 2009 it was Doug that was there to console my family. He was a friend and I miss him! Rest in Peace and tell Perry I said Hi! God be with your family and friends!
You have my heartfelt sympathies. A loss of this kind is never easy but when it becomes so public and people so insensitive, it is even worse.
Doug was gone before the truck hit him. His loss will leave a gaping hole in our hearts and lives. I would ask that all who make comments know and understand the facts, otherwise shut up, you cannot possibly know unless you are a part of the investigation or a part of our family and/or friends of my brother. Condolences & prayers are welcome and appreciated. I am not sure why I find myself dumbfounded by the ignorance and idiocy that some people show. A life was lost, a tragic ACCIDENT occurred and we cannot get Doug back so all the asinine comments are just adding insult to an already difficult, painful tragedy in our lives. I will no longer receive random txt, emails or phone calls from him telling me that he loves me. his wife and 2 children will no longer have the comfort of his loving arms(he could give the best hugs) around them. A very big part of our lives is gone~ I ask that you please RESPECT my brother as well as his family and friends. Life as we know it ended July 6 2009.
I am appalled at some of the comments that are being made by people. You obviously have no clue what you are talking about, to Anonymous2 it WAS NOT Doug's fault, how idiotic can you get? As his sister, you notice I have NO problem saying who I am? I cannot believe the ignorance that has been expressed on this page. Andrea in Charlotte, ARE YOU SERIOUS? How to hit a deer and survive? At 70 MPH? WOW, for all who showed their ignorance, if you want to express your condolences, do so, otherwise keep your 'opinions' to yourself this can be applied to all idiotic comments made! My brother is a true hero that will be remembered by his kids, wife, family and friends. Thank you to ALL who showed their love, care and RESPECT for Doug and us[his family]. His laughter and love for life will forever be in our hearts and minds. He touched all by a simple smile, his laugh & his obvious care for all. He was the best as a Brother, Father, Husand, Uncle,Friend and Son. Ride Free...FTW I love you Doug
I would just like to say to the person who is saying the deer was already DONE!! WRONG!! it was not, he didn't hit the deer, the deer jumped out and hit him. the Semi driver was attempting to go around the motorcycle when he hit Doug... this is no ones fault! God wanted Doug home with him on Monday morning... there is nothing that could have been done to change that! He is a great man and loved by many!
My prayers and thoughts go out to Doug's family and the many men and women that worked with him. I feel fortunate that I was able to know Doug as he worked with my father at CCSD. He always had a smile on his face and seemed to enjoy life to the fullest. My heart aches for his children and his wife. He will be missed but his life will always be celebrated through the smiles and laughter of his children. Thank you for your service to the community Doug. You may be gone but not forgotten.
To Anonymous2; Unless you were there to evaulate the accident, keep your narrow-minded opinions to yourself. Pointing fingers is childish, much as you are. Keep in mind when posting stupid comments, family and friends are also reading this. Have some decency....
Did anyone know that the deer he hit was already dead in the road!!! So if that was the case it would have been his fault for hitting the deer. As for the semi driver you can see at the scene where he tried to stop and swerve to miss him but becuase you cannot stop that big of a truck in a moments notice he had no choice! It is just that a tragic accident! My thoughts and prayers to the family.
Hey Melinda..Are you High??? How stupid can you really be? Never mind, don't answer that, we can all figure it out. My thoughts and prayers goto Doug's family. So tragic! The good Lord above must have a different plan for him.
Seriously, I cant believe that people have nothing better to do with their time but to sit and debate how this accident happened and whos fault it is! There is a reason why its called an accident and I think people need to get it together. My thoughts are with Doug and his family.
This was a freak accident. It's a tragedy for all involved including the Alward family and the trucker and his family. Pointing fingers isn't going to change this horrible accident.
He was a wonderful caring officer and he will be greatly missed. Please pray for his family & friends.
Just before Thanksgiving 2008 I was stopped by this officer for speeding and didn't feel it was fair. So I met him at the SJ courthouse to fight the ticket. These officers come in on their days off for these situations and he came in with his little girl and in plain clothes. He gave me a break. I still had to pay the fine, but no moving violation. Told his adorable little girl that she "has a good daddy". I knew he was just doing his job. It saddens me to think of his wife and young children without him. So tragic.
I am a relative of the sister of Doug. I have to say some of these comments are just foul! I only met Doug once and I know his sister to be a great person. Please, pray for the family, don't blame and condemn people or animals. This was a horrible accident. That's all.
