Prostate Cancer Vaccine

Researchers at the University of Illinois in Chicago are trying out a new vaccine designed as a potential cure for prostate cancer.

Oncologist Dr. David Peace designed the vaccine. Dr. Peace says its purpose is to turn on the body's natural immune system and selectively attack prostate cancer cells.

He says the treatment is unlike other cancer therapies that destroy healthy tissue and cause unwanted side effects. Instead, the vaccine works to boost the immune system and target only the affected areas.

If successful, the treatment could be very good news for current and future prostate cancer patients.
