Health Department officials confirm it is Norovirus that sickened some 60 staff and senior citizens at the Delta Retirement Center in Delta Township.

Thursday four people were still sick, but plans were in place to gradually open the building back up starting with lunch and dinner in the dining room Friday.

Children and the elderly are most at risk for illness. Recently there have been two major Norovirus outbreaks at assisted living facilities, one in Delta Township and Faith Haven Senior Care Center in Jackson.

At Burcham Hills Retirement Community in East Lansing there's hand sanitizing gel, hand washing reminders and pleas to please stay home if you're sick. Staff and elders have been healthy and Executive Director Pam Ditri wants to keep it that way.

Employees are asked to stay home if they exhibit signs of sickness and elders are asked to stay away from others if they are ill.
