On the verge of revitalization, a Lansing building burns but owners remain positive. The building, which has been referred to by a number of names, is located on Kalamazoo Street about one block east of Cedar Street.
Built in 1903, it used to be an ice storage facility. It now belongs to Kevin Schoen, CEO of ACD.net and his business partner. They had just started interior demolition about one month ago and had plans to turn it into artist living and work space.
Schoen says they will continue, but they're not exactly sure how much damage has been done yet.
Someone driving by called the fire in around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday. By noon, firefighters were still trying to put out some flames. Much of the damage looks to be to the front of the building. No word yet on what caused the fire.
