Rep. Paul Deweese held a special meeting of republicans and democrats to oversee concerns on local government budgets.

He hopes that he can help overturn Gov. John Engler’s veto on state revenue sharing, an act not done since 1977.

Rep. Deweese says local government budgets were shaken after Gov. Engler vetoed state revenue sharing that would aid local municipalities.

The governor said the veto was an act of fiscal responsibility for possible costs if some November ballot items are elected.

The representatives that met with Rep. Deweese claim the move is "political blackmail."

Attendees at the meeting feel a vote on the issue could come Aug. 13.
