The district in Mt. Clemens is considerably smaller than the Lansing School District... only about 2,500 students. But, Wallace has made significant improvements. He's credited with getting a 71 million dollar bond passed which helped build a new elementary school.
Lansing School Board Vice President Hugh Clarke said much of what he'd heard about Wallace was confirmed during the visit. He saw small class sizes, which Wallace talked about. He also heard from administrators and teachers about Wallace's open door, even tempered manner.
Wallace has not been offered the job yet. But, he is the only finalist... with the candidate having dropped from consideration earlier this month.
