"Right over there, there used to be double stacked porches, screened in with double doors, there's a deck back there somewhere," April Trudgeon of Eaton Rapids said.
But that was then -- and this is now. Trudgeon's porch was demolished by a fallen tree Friday night.
"There's a car in there somewhere butterflied," she said. "It's a mess."
Heavy storms ripped through Eaton Rapids Friday night, bringing down trees over town.
"About 10:20 Friday night, the wind got real bad, we heard a big crash and when I came out and there was a tree was laying on top of the car," one resident said.
"We were about to go to bed and all of a sudden the winds picked up and my step son saw the tree fall over," John Selby said.
Mayor Jamie Davidson calls this storm -- which lasted only about 30 minutes -- unusual.
"Just certain parts of town we hit," Davidson said. "In parts of town we have pockets of extensive tree damage and more importantly those trees fell on our power lines, so we have power outages all over town."
Hundreds of people were without power Saturday -- outside crews were called to assist the city.
"We won't have power for a few days, we're just hoping we have it tonight," Ashley Banks said.
The cleanup, which is already underway, will take days.
For Trudgeon, who said she's thankful for her family's safety, can now smile at Mother Nature's humor.
"My roof got done Friday and it was demolished Friday night," she said.
Eaton Rapids offers its own municipal power. City officials say they've worked quickly and should have most people back on by Saturday night, Sunday by the latest.
