Governor Granholm says that current lawmakers did away with the state's main business tax and they should be the ones to come up with its replacement before they adjourn in December.

Speaking today to reporters, the Democratic governor said the Republican-led House and Senate have plenty of time to craft a replacement for the tax in the three weeks ahead.

She plans to submit her own proposal to lawmakers next week.

It would reduce the personal property taxes businesses pay on equipment as well as create a lower overall business tax rate that covers more businesses, without reducing revenue.

Requests for comment were left with the spokesmen for House and Senate GOP leaders.
