The school board decided on the first day of interviews--Tuesday--to invite all current employees who applied for the districts top job into their 3-day interview process.
"We thought it was the right thing to do," said school board VP Hugh Clarke.
Board members say it's not that internal candidates are getting a nod, but rather that they deserve to be considered after all their years of service to the district.
"We always want to see what's inside, give 'em a fair shot, and who knows," said president Guillermo Lopez.
Dr. Sharron Jenkins Norman, Lansing's Director of Instruction, and Dr. T.C. Wallace from Mount Clemens Community Schools were interviewed Tuesday. James Coolican of a district in Washington State and Ron Circanna of Willow Run were before the board on Wednesday.
Still to come are superintedents Sammy Felton, and Ricardo Medina, and the 3 added internal candidates.
They are Diana Rouse, an area director; Jim Davis, director of student services; and Norman Gear, Gardner Middle School's principal.
The board, and search committee will wittle the list to two next Monday and one--the presumed superintendent--before the new year.
Current superintendent Dr. E. Sharon Banks will step down at the end of the year.
