One local woman is reaching out to other women affected by heart disease by forming a new support group. Pat Gauerke is a heart disease survivor who is joining the fight against the number one killer of women. Heart disease kills more women than men, and now area women or anyone ineterested in learning more about it have a place to go.
"When you first get over your heart surgery, you have all kinds of feeling: you don't feel well, you're scared... This will give those women a place to go, and somebody to talk to," Pat Gauerke.
The support group is in conjunction with Women Heart, a coalition for women with heart disease. The first meeting will be held on September 16th at the Sparrow Professional Building in Room G at 6 p.m. The next meetting will be on October 21st at 6 p.m. at the Dawe Auditorium at Ingham Regional Medical Center.
