Benefit for Families in Fowlerville

The community of Fowlerville turned out Saturday for a benefit to support the families of children killed and injured in a July 28 car accident.

The event was held at Fowlerville High School and included a celebrity and silent auction, food, games, car show and motorcycle show. The money made will be going to help the families of eight teens, four of whom died, involved in a severe car accident, to help with funeral and medical expenses.

The families say the support of the community has been unreal. And the family of David Keniston is pushing for the passage of legislation which would allow teen drivers to drive with only one passenger. Sixteen-year-old Keniston was driving a seven passenger minivan down Hogback Rd. Near Fowlerville when he lost control on a curve and hit a tree. He and two other teens died in the crash, another victim three days later.

The family of that girl filed a civil lawsuit against Keniston's mother, charging negligence in allowing a new driver to go out with so many passengers. The suit seeks at least $25,000 in damages.
