For the second time in four years, Michigan State University's Athletic Department will buyout the contract of its head football coach.
An Athletic Department spokesman tells News Ten Smith will be paid $3.1 million. That amount doesn't include deferment money he's already been paid.
A University spokesman says no taxpayer or tuition dollars will be spent on the buyout. The remainder of his contract totals about five percent of the Athletic Department's $63.2 million operating budget.
