Security Checks at Lansing Schools

They funneled into the school building through the main entrances of Everett High School. Public safety officers checked them one at a time, scanning them with security wands and looking through their backpacks before letting them into class.

The search turned up three potentially dangerous weapons including one three-inch knife and two smaller knife-like weapons. Officials say the students carrying those weapons might be suspended or expelled.

While some students say they felt the search was invasive, school officials say random checks are necessary to stop weapons from making their way into the schools.

Last week, authorities searched students at Lansing's Hill school. They say numerous students dropped weapons outside the school doors to avoid getting in trouble when they went through security.
