With incumbent Congressman Nick Smith apparently not running for election next year, the field is filling with potential replacements including speculation this week that Smith's own son, Brad, may follow in his father's footsteps.

Brad Smith has said he is "thinking' about joining the primary which now includes the following: Reps. Clark Bisbee, Gene DeRossett, Calhoun County Clerk Anne Norlander and two former legislators Tim Walberg and Paul DeWeese who recently moved into Smith's district.

Still on the possible list are former lawmakers John Schwarz and Frank Fitzgerald along with current house member Mickey Mortimer. A replacement for Smith will be chosen next August.
